July 5, 2024 _ Charlie Miller, a tireless advocate for veterans, soldiers and credit unions, has been selected for the prestigious Defense Credit Union Council Hall of Honor.
A recently retired Redstone Federal Credit Union board member, Miller is among three honorees recognized for their impressive history of service and dedication to the military, veteran communities, and to the DCUC. The awards ceremony will be held in August.
Miller expressed his appreciation for the honor.
“I wholeheartedly thank Redstone Federal Credit Union members, our employees, our staff, and especially my colleagues on the board of directors. Their support over these 36 years has been unwavering,’’ he said. “Prioritizing financial wellness, supporting our community and helping people of modest means are the accomplishments that I cherish the most during this journey. It has truly been about People Helping People.’’
Miller retired from Redstone’s volunteer board in December 2023, after serving 36 years. He joined Redstone’s Credit Advisory Committee in 1987 because the board sought someone to advocate for soldiers during the lending process. He held the position of First Vice Chair at the time of his retirement.
Dave Hargrove, Redstone’s board chair, said Miller exemplifies a servant leader.
“Charlie is so deserving of this award. His commitment to financial education, community engagement, and veteran support is unparalleled in both the credit union industry or the broader community. Charlie has been a steadying force at Redstone for more than three decades. We will miss his wisdom, his kindness, and his enthusiasm for service,’’ said Hargrove.
Over the years, Miller has earned an array of honors connected to his 30 years in the U.S. Army and his community service.
He was inducted into the U.S. Army Ordnance Hall of Fame; received the Drolet Service Veterans Award; the Volunteer of the Year Award by the League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates; and the Veteran of the Year Award from the Alabama State Council for his role in founding and leading the Huntsville Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Miller said although he retired from Redstone’s board, he will never retire from helping others.
