Traditional IRA
- Contributions may be tax deductible (check with your tax advisor). Contribution limits may apply.
- Earnings are tax-deferred until withdrawn. Withdrawals prior to age 59 may result in a 10% IRS penalty tax.
- Available to those with earned income. Required minimum distributions must be taken once you reach age 72.
Roth IRA
- Contributions are not tax deductible
- Earnings are tax-deferred until withdrawn. Withdrawals from the account may be tax- free, as long as they are considered qualified. Limitations and restrictions may apply. Withdrawals prior to age 59 1/2, or prior to the account being opened for five years, may result in a 10% IRS tax penalty.
- You may be able to contribute to a Roth IRA for yourself or your spouse if you have earned income. Limitations may apply dependent on income level and filing status.
Contributions to a traditional IRA may be tax deductible in the contribution year, with current income tax due at withdrawal. Withdrawals prior to age 59 ½ may result in a 10% IRS penalty tax in addition to current income tax.
