Redstone is excited to introduce Samarpreet “Sam” Sohi as its new chief financial officer (CFO) and executive vice president (EVP). With more than 15 years of experience in the financial services industry, Sohi brings a wealth of expertise to this role, having worked across various leadership positions in large banks and credit unions, including Freddie Mac and VyStar Credit Union in Jacksonville, FL. He also has prior experience in leading credit unions over the $10 billion asset threshold and executing strategic mergers. Sohi’s comprehensive expertise in strategy, team development, and transformational change, combined with his passion for inclusive leadership and community impact, makes him a standout addition to Redstone.
A Journey Built on Expertise and Leadership
Sohi’s career trajectory has been shaped by education, experience, and a commitment to excellence. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from Punjab Engineering College in India, followed by a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Additionally, Sohi is a CFA charter holder from the CFA Institute, underscoring his deep knowledge of finance and investment management.
Most recently, Sohi served as CFO at Keesler Federal Credit Union in Biloxi, MS. His competencies include balance sheet management, digital transformation, margin improvement, loan and deposit pricing, investment portfolio strategies, and capital planning, to name a few.
Sohi’s journey has been marked by significant career milestones that have allowed him to develop a leadership style that is inclusive, results-oriented, and data-driven. He has a deep understanding of the nuances of credit unions, having worked in the sector for much of his career, and finds the mission of organizations like Redstone particularly appealing.
Why Redstone?
When asked what attracted him to Redstone, Sohi speaks with enthusiasm about the company’s culture and its strong track record of financial success. “Redstone has been a model of financial success. The opportunity to help the credit union continue growing—especially towards and beyond the $10 billion asset milestone—genuinely excites me,” Sohi says. His vision for Redstone’s growth involves organic opportunities and strategic initiatives, positioning the organization for long-term success.
Leadership Philosophy: Empowering People to Excel
Sohi’s leadership style is rooted in collaboration and mentorship. He believes in fostering an environment where individuals feel empowered to take ownership of their professional growth and contribute meaningfully to the organization’s success. “I take great pride in helping people grow and develop,” Sohi explains. “It’s incredibly satisfying to see team members thrive and take on greater responsibility.”
His approach to leadership is a combination of strategic vision and operational execution. He balances long-term goals with day-to-day operational needs by ensuring his team is aligned,
motivated, and well-equipped to execute strategically. He places a strong emphasis on hearing diverse perspectives, mentorship, development, and creating opportunities for individuals to excel.
A Legacy of Growth and Impact
Sohi is excited to build upon the strong foundation laid by his predecessor, Wayne Sisco, who is set to retire in March of 2025. Sisco has been instrumental in overseeing the financial soundness of Redstone and expanding its operations over the course of his 38-year tenure. During his time, Redstone’s assets grew from $400 million to nearly $8 billion, a remarkable achievement that reflects the stability of the credit union. Sisco diligently worked to provide direction to many other areas including legal, compliance, security, lending, and Alabama branch operations. Sohi looks forward to continuing this legacy of profitable growth while furthering financial innovation for Redstone. “Wayne has been a solid leader for Redstone over the years and I look forward to building upon that legacy,” Sohi says.
Looking ahead, Sohi sees tremendous opportunities for Redstone. "I am drawn to credit unions because of their deep commitment to members and their impact on local communities. The philosophy of treating members with respect and prioritizing their financial well-being resonates strongly with my personal values," Sohi shares.
Personal Insights: A Balanced Life and Strong Values
Beyond his professional achievements, Sohi is deeply committed to maintaining balance in his personal life. He looks forward to spending time outdoors, particularly in the vibrant city of Huntsville, Alabama, where he and his family are excited to start a new journey. With access to scenic trails and the nearby mountains, Huntsville offers the perfect environment for Sohi’s active lifestyle.
Sohi is also an avid reader, with a particular interest in leadership and mindfulness. He cites influential books, including those on servant leadership, as key resources that have shaped his leadership philosophy.
Future Outlook
As Sohi takes on his new role at Redstone, his commitment to the organization’s mission and vision is clear. He is excited to work alongside his colleagues and stakeholders to continue delivering exceptional service to members and driving sustainable growth.
"I am deeply grateful to Redstone's leadership for trusting me with the opportunity to serve as CFO. This is an exciting time for the organization, and I’m honored to contribute to its continued success. I look forward to carrying out the vision set by our stakeholders to drive growth, innovation, and create a positive impact for our members," says Sohi.
With his strong leadership, experience in strategic financial management, and passion for mentorship, Sohi is poised to make a lasting impact at Redstone.
Redstone is thrilled to have Sohi join the Redstone team and looks forward to the future under his leadership.
