Retire on your own terms with a long-term investment

Financial Consultants | Portfolio Review | Fixed or Variable

As a long-term investment for retirement, an annuity offers you the option to receive a guaranteed income stream for the rest of your life. You invest in an annuity now, and you receive payments from it later. While your money is in the annuity, it grows tax-deferred, which means you don’t pay taxes on your investment gains until you start receiving payments. You can also arrange to leave a portion of the annuity to a beneficiary after you pass away.

When deciding on an annuity, you have the option of either Fixed or Variable. You also have a variety of payout options to choose from, including whether you’d like payments to start immediately or in the future, and if you’d like a lump sum or a series of payments. Both Variable and Fixed Annuities include valuable tax incentives and there are no limits to how much you can contribute. Your personal tolerance for risk will determine which one is right for you.

Our experienced Financial Advisors/Consultants can walk you through all your retirement options, including annuities, IRAs, and other investments.

Which Annuity is Right for You?

Fixed and Variable annuities are suitable for long-term investing, such as retirement investing. Gains from tax-deferred investments are taxable as ordinary income upon withdrawal. Guarantees are based on the claims paying ability of the issuing company. Withdrawals made prior to age 59 1/2; are subject to a 10% IRS penalty tax and surrender charges may apply. Variable annuities are subject to market risk and may lose value.

Fixed Annuity
  • Offers more predictability because the principal is “fixed” and will never fall below a certain rate
  • When compared with a Variable Annuity, this option is geared toward people with a lower tolerance for risk
Variable Annuity
  • You have more control because you choose which subaccounts you want to invest in, from low risk to very high risk
  • Offers the potential for a larger payout
  • A Variable Annuity fluctuates with the market, and therefore is much riskier than a Fixed Annuity
