(September 26, 2019) -- Redstone Federal Credit Union® joins the University of Alabama in Huntsville for the grand opening and ribbon-cutting of its new student-run branch in the UAH Charger Union today.
The celebration starts at 10:30 a.m. with games, giveaways and a live radio remote. The event culminates in the ribbon-cutting at 2:30 p.m. in front of the branch.
UAH President Dr. Darren Dawson welcomes Redstone to the campus.
“We’re pleased to have Redstone Federal Credit Union on our campus to help serve the financial needs of our students, faculty and staff,’’ Dawson said. “Redstone has seven student-run branches in their service area - three on college campuses and four in high schools - and it’s fitting for the largest credit union in Alabama to be on the largest college campus in north Alabama.’’
Lola Teague’s journey from student teller to a Member Service Representative at the UAH branch is everything Redstone officials had hoped for when they launched the schools’ program in 2017.
Lola was a senior at Hartselle High School when Redstone opened its first student-run branch there. After graduating high school, she worked in a part-time position at the credit union before starting at UAH.
“When I learned that a UAH branch was opening, I was absolutely thrilled at the possibility of getting to work here,’’ Lola said. “At the Hartselle branch, we didn’t get to open accounts. As a MSR, I get to interact more with the members and spend more time getting to know them.’’
Joe Newberry, Redstone’s President and CEO, looks forward to more success stories.
“Our goals with the Schools Program are to build partnerships and relationships with the schools and to advance financial literacy. It is also an opportunity to find future employees among the students as they experience the working world,’’ said Newberry.
“We are thrilled and excited about partnering with UAH to open this branch. It will conveniently serve the students, faculty and staff while giving students the hands-on training and positive work experience that will take them to the next level,’’ Newberry said.
